3 steps

1. STEP 1 · ZOOM THE STRIP− Wider and + Closer at the right of the strip open and close the window onto the shot · or hold the pointer over the rail and scroll. Closer buys you a second of shot across the whole screen, which is where placing anything exactly begins. The rail keeps saying which seconds you are looking at.
2. STEP 2 · PLACE THE BAR EXACTLYDrag a bar and it carries a readout as it goes · where it starts, how long it lasts, which frame that is. Bars land on a tenth of a second and give eight pixels of forgiveness to their neighbours, which is what makes two moves meet cleanly. Hold ⌥ while you drag and both go away · the bar then stands wherever your hand puts it, to the hundredth. Drag an edge instead of the middle to retime one end and leave the other where it is.
3. STEP 3 · SNAP TO THE COUNTGive the shot a count · Tap a tempo in with T, four presses on the beat · and the rail grows a grid of beats. Everything that snaps, snaps to them, so a row of moves lands on the beat rather than near it. Double-press the rail to lay a single beat by hand at the playhead, and press the same place again to take it away.
