THE MOTION
The mark that keeps moving
Draw one stroke, press Living, and the drawing itself boils, flows, waves, drifts, glows or sparkles on the reel · without you drawing a second frame.

3 steps
- STEP 1 · LAY A MARKTake the Brush (B) and draw a stroke on its own layer. It has to be a mark the brush laid · the studio keeps the path, the pressures and the seed the texture scattered from, and that record is the whole trick. A sheet of pixels that came from somewhere else has nothing to lay again.
- STEP 2 · PRESS LIVINGMaterial → BRUSH, right at the foot of the card. Seven ways: Boils shivers the line and re-scatters every grain. Flows sends dashes and dots travelling along it. Shimmers breathes the weight of the ink without moving a point. Waves runs a wave along the mark, sideways to it. Drifts wanders it on a slow field of air and softens it · smoke. Glows swells a halo out of it and settles back · the one that reads on a plain even line. Sparkles scatters specks that live for one drawing. Six, eight or twelve drawings a second; two to six in the cycle; Amount says how far the mark may stray. ⌥click a mark first and the row dresses THAT mark alone.
- STEP 3 · OPEN THE REEL AND WATCHThe mark only moves in time, so press MOTION and play. The cycle closes on itself and the shot is fitted to it, so a loop lands exactly where it started. Nothing about your still changes · with the reel shut, in a thumbnail and in every export, it is the mark exactly as you laid it.
